What Other People Think Of You Is None Of Your Business

Are you always aware of what other people might think of you and as a result do not lead the life you are supposed to? You are not the only one because this is a widespread concern that affects people in all societies.  According to scientists, this concern stems from evolution. At one point, being excluded from the group meant certain death like in the animal kingdom. You could not possibly have survived on your own 30,000 years ago. You required assistance. It was beneficial to be concerned with how others perceived you.

However, you no longer have to rely on a village to feed you or keep you safe. You have transport.  At the store, you can purchase food. You are not required to combat the savages in another village. Those days are behind us. Knowing the following will assist you in letting go of outdated programming and living life on your own terms:

1. Almost no one is truly concerned about you except your family and friends

From the moment we enter school to the day we say our final farewell to life, it appears as though we believe that others care about what we do, how well we do it, and why we do it.

In reality, the majority of people have more pressing concerns of their own than to worry about what you are doing.

2. The smoke dissipates rapidly

Even if you raise everyone’s eyebrows with your divorce, affair, job loss, or nose job, people will quickly forget about it. It won’t take more than a week for people to pay attention to their own priorities.

3. No matter what you do, some people will approve and others will not

Some people will compliment you on your new car, while others will look down on you for making such a frivolous purchase. If you lose weight, some people will compliment you, while others will tell you that you appear unhealthy and should consult a physician. You could adopt a family of third-world orphaned toddlers and someone will be offended that you imported foreigners.

You adopted a cat, correct? You should have acquired a dog. Have you ever seen the Rolling Stones? Their music is revolting.

You will never be able to please everyone. Ever.

4. People  do not know what your needs are

Nobody is aware of what is best for you. You can’t figure it out half the time, but you have a better idea than your coworker. Others do not have a sufficient understanding of you to form an informed opinion.

5. The final outcome, whether good or bad, is entirely up to you

You are accountable for the consequences of your choices.

You are responsible for the consequences of your poor choices.

You are entitled to the good fortune that comes your way in life.

Make your own choices, as you will bear the consequences alone.

6. Life is brief and should not be wasted on worries about what other people think

Years pass quickly, especially as you age. Each day ebbs and flows into the next. It makes perfect sense to live your life independently.

7. It becomes simpler not to care over time

Once you stop making decisions based on the opinions of others, you quickly realize that what others think is irrelevant. It becomes easier and easier to care less and less the next time.

You don’t need a large circle of friends to thrive in today’s world. The important people are on your side and are the people who matter. Other people are irrelevant. Stop worrying excessively about what others think, and you’ll experience a new sense of freedom to live the life you want.
